Welcome! Right off the bat, we would like to let you know...
WHY WE ARE DIFFERENT THAN OTHER POOL COMPANIES
Bob Hayward, founder of Bob Hayward Custom Pools, has this philosophy about his company and pool building
in general; I don’t take pool building lightly. I am fully aware of the cost and sacrifice it takes to finally make the
decision to own a pool. Purchasing a pool is the third most important decision in a family’s life next to buying a
house and car. Many factors must be considered when deciding to purchase a pool: Shape, depth, length,
style, natural, vanishing edge, contemporary, straight, angular, curved, beach entrance, steps, benches, deep
end exits, boulders, diving, lap, swimming, wading shelves, lighting, water flow, therapy, exercise, play areas,
slides, spa, jets, heating, coping, waterline, stone or tile, plaster or pebble tech surfaces, chlorine or soft
saltwater, just to name a tiny sample of options and necessities you need to be aware of when you begin to
design your dream pool.
I don’t believe in pressuring anyone into buying a pool or telling them what style they want. Your pool should
have everything that you want in it, it should be functional, practical, extremely user friendly so you own it, it
doesn’t own you, it should be drop-dead beautiful no matter what style you choose, it should be affordable,
and most important, it must be fun!
Your pool should have everything you want in it, at a price you can live with. And it must fit your yard, it must
be able to be adapted from the original 2-dimensional drawing in to the actual 3-dimensional location where it
will be from now on. The builder should be on site daily, and willing to change it as needed so you, the owner,
will be 150% happy with the final product when it is completed, with no regrets. There should never be the
phrase “I wish I had done this, or I wish I hadn’t done that”, ever said by a new pool owner.
For these reasons, I take every prospective pool buyer very seriously and I do all that I can to make sure the
pool you always wanted is the pool you get. I present to you one or more designs, drawn by me, based on your
stated desires. I offer every available option that I know to be useful, safe, dependable, and of high quality.
Everything is itemized and priced fairly. With Bob Hayward Custom Pools, you get exactly what you pay for,
usually more, never less. I am in business to make a living, not a killing. Unlike the average pool company, we
have no salesmen, so you do not pay a commission for your pool. You are not another conquest, another
notch on the company sales roster. You do not pay 22% of your overall contract price to finance a salesman’s
summer vacation in Hawaii. What you pay for is labor and material, and a lot more pool for a lot less money.
And while a typical salesman will promise the world, often times the subcontractor can’t deliver on the
promise. What I promise to do, I have to fulfill, because I am the contractor, and I am there every day to see
the pool from a hole in the ground to a beautiful backyard paradise. And if we layout your pool on day one and
it needs to shift over, or longer, or wider, or deeper, we just do it, rather than pulling out the contract & plans
and saying its not included. My goal is the same as yours, the best possible pool in your backyard with the best
possible design, materials, equipment & options for the best possible price, in the least amount of time
possible, with the least amount of disruption as possible, to make you as happy as possible.
MORE WAYS WE DIFFER FROM OTHER POOL COMPANIES
Typically, pools “built” by the big companies and most companies are drawn out for extended periods of time,
ranging from 3-9 months to complete, often leaving the customer very dissatisfied and very unhappy. Pool
construction is basically broken down into 8 stages: Excavation, steel placement, gas, electric and plumbing,
equipment set, shotcrete (or gunite), coping and waterline, decking, and plaster. Each of these stages
realistically should take only a few days each. If you are waiting for the subcontractors (now in short supply) to
do their particular step of the construction, and the pool company has 60-100 pools ahead of you, its no
wonder it takes so long. Some people wait weeks, even months between stages. And if the subcontractor
doesn’t want to accommodate any alterations you might have in mind, or if the building inspector doesn’t
accept their work, the delay is even greater.
At Hayward, our goal is not only top quality work, but your total satisfaction as quickly as possible. Our typical
pool construction schedule runs something like this: The first 2-3 days, pool is excavated. The next 2-3 days,
steel is put in hole. Then the lights, plumbing, gas & electric, steel bonding, all done in the next few days.
Then we call for inspection. Because we are well established and known for our quality work, exceeding
codes for strength and safety, we always pass inspection.
The next week we shotcrete the pool (never gunite, knowing shotcrete is far stronger with its aggragate and
high cement content), and start installing the coping, waterline tile or stone, and prepare the surrounding for
pool decking.
Once the fence is up and concrete poured, (usually a few days later) we call for our 2nd and final inspection.
Once, passed, the plaster is applied and that day water is put in your pool to slow-cure the smooth plaster
finish. Within 2 days we start up the pool equipment, vacuum, brush, add chemicals, set all of the in house and
poolside wireless remotes, and your pool is ready for swimming once the skin coat of plaster is pre-cured.
(usually 5-10 days). Within 2 weeks we return to add the salt and conditioner, and activate the salt water cell
for your chlorine-free soft water pool. Then, we are out of your way, (leaving you a handbook for pool
maintenance), to allow you to enjoy your investment.
Average pool construction: 30 working days. You are happy, we are happy and the kids are in the water!
